About the Louis Laybourne Smith School of Architecture & Design
"To
advance and promote architecture, interior architecture and industrial
design through quality education, research, consultancy and advocacy
aimed at students, industry and the professions."
The Louis Laybourne Smith School of Architecture and Design at the
University of South Australia offers professionally recognised programs
in architecture, interior architecture and industrial design at
undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The School is committed to providing high quality, integrated and
flexible programs and has developed a national reputation for education
working with the professions and the broader community. Teaching is
undertaken by both academics and practitioners and the School maintains
a close association with professional bodies. This ensures that students
from each of the disciplines graduate with professionally relevant
skills necessary for success in a continually changing and increasingly
multidisciplinary environment.
The School has particular expertise in contemporary cultural theory and
design education, museum and exhibition design, furniture design, remote
area and environmentally sustainable construction, design for
disability, professional management, urban design theory and practice
and digital and information technologies within design practice. In all
of these areas, theory and practice are integrated through the art and
craft of making.
We invite you to visit us in person at our city campus in Adelaide,
where we will be happy to show you around our city, our landscapes and
our designing minds.
