sheetmetal and metal machining area The Louis Laybourne Smith School of Architecture and Design Workshop is an extensive model making, prototype and architectural construction facility. Initially set up in 1972, it moved to its new location in the Dorrit Black Building at City West Campus in 2005.  It is one of the most comprehensive workshop facilities for teaching University Design courses in Australia.
This facility gives students of Industrial Design, Architecture and Interior Architecture the opportunity to gain valuable experience in 3D concept model making, product development, prototyping, furniture manufacturing, or architectural projects constructions along with a practical based knowledge of material selection and manufacturing processes. The Workshop aims to provide a practical based learning environment through the provision of a research, development and manufacturing facility, which encourages practical design solutions, innovation and excellence in design.
