Design and evaluation of a light weight parallel stump jump mechanism using computer aided design.
The aim of the research is the development of a stump jump mechanism suitable for use on small machines, based on the partially parallel stump jump mechanism developed by Terry Riley and John Fielke of the University of South Australia. The main objective was to decrease the weight for reduced cost. The Finite Element Method was used for modelling strength and dynamic behaviour of the mechanism to optimise the design. The Levels facilities of the University of South Australia were used for modelling, manufacturing and laboratory testing and the Roseworthy facilities were used for field testing.
The research was carried out in the following chronological order:
Design of the tine and the stump jump mechanism
Production of prototype unit
Laboratory and field testing
