Viticulture
AMRDC
has established a strong reputation in the development and usage of technology to benefit the
viticulture industry, most notably in the areas of design testing and
research. Activities are both laboratory and field based and include:
- Fundamental and applied research,
- Prototype development and
- Engineering solutions for vineyard managers and owners
Researchers focus on providing engineering solutions to the viticulture
industry that require
modern technology and equipment to assist in their day to day research
programs. Our staff are results orientated, utilising state of the
art equipment and facilities.
AMRDC have strong collaboration with industry groups including the Grape and
Wine
Research and Development Corporation (GWRDC); South Australian Research and
Development Institute (SARDI); Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial
Research Organisation (CSIRO); in addition to companies such as Orlando,
Southcorp / Fosters, and private enterprises working within the industry.
Key areas of expertise
- soil management and reduction of compaction
- deep soil loosening
- soil amelioration
- incorporation of solid biomass
- engineering design services for vineyards and wineries
Potential benefits from application of research into these areas may increase root exploration in the soil profile; reduce the requirement of irrigation water; and increase crop vigour.
