Aim
To develop new and better performing tillage and seeding equipment for Australian farmers to suit evolving farming practices of:-
- Larger landholdings and cropped areas
- Adoption of minimum tillage and direct drilling
- Introduction of controlled traffic and raised bed farming
- Introduction of precision farming with variable rate seeding
Methodology
AMRDC provides engineers to work on-site at Mannum, SA to work with their sales, drafting and production staff to develop from concept to final design new machines.
The work utilises AMRDCs extensive knowledge of seeding and tillage machinery requirements and combines this with first principles mechanical engineering design which utilises computer based design packages of Solidworks, Cosmosworks and Dynamic Designer.
Testing for Horwood Bagshaw has utilised AMRDCs facilities including:-
- Tine fatigue tester
- Airseeder test equipment
- Fan and airflow test equipment
- Metallurgical analysis
Achievements
Development of the following machines
- Range of narrow centre and medium centre Scaribars
- Scaribars and airseeders suited to 2m and 3m wheel track raised bed and controlled traffic farming
- Double fold Scaribars, up to 18.6 m wide
- Scaribar mounted airseeders
- Tow between airseeders
- Quad wheel airseeders up to 15,000 litres in capacity
- Trailed airseeders
- Loading augers for filling the airseeders
This work was awarded the 1999, National Winner, AusINDUSTRY Award for
outstanding achievement in Collaborative R&D - Company turnover less
than $50m, for the design and evaluation of tillage and seeding
equipment for manufacturer Horwood Bagshaw.
