This program is for health care professionals who support people living with a serious Mental Health problem. Helping people to comply with taking their medications is a key component to managing their condition.
Adherence Therapy is an evidenced based psychological intervention, delivered by trained clinicians, which is based on the principles of motivational interviewing. The program aims to provide health care professionals with key therapeutic techniques to help people adhere with taking medication. This includes medication problem solving, exchanging information, exploring ambivalence, and challenging beliefs.
Evaluation of these approaches to care indicates people are more informed about their medication and develop new skills in managing some of the difficulties of adhering with medication.
Participants on completion of the training will have an opportunity to participate in six one hour “community of practice” sessions. The “community of practice” allows participants to discuss and reflect on their experiences of using the skills covered in the training programme.
Duration of workshop: Two-day workshop
