The Bachelor of Social Work prepares students for professional practice in social work allowing them to support and empower individuals, groups and communities in difficult circumstances.

The social work profession promotes advocacy, social change, positive human relationships and the empowerment of people to enhance their well-being. Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to social work, an increasingly important profession in today’s rapidly changing world.

Social work at the University of South Australia provides opportunities for field education placements in the third and fourth years of the degree. Students benefit from the close supervision of experienced practitioners and regular support from the University, with many being offered further employment on completion of their degree.

Social Workers have excellent employment opportunities. The demand for graduates is high and graduating students quickly find employment in a range of fields. There are also strong employment opportunities overseas, particularly in the United Kingdom.

Mona Mahadevan
Bachelor of Social Work (Honours)

“I was drawn to the University of South Australia because of the prospect of undertaking International field placements.  I completed my first placement with the Madras Christian College in Chennai, India where I worked at a Health Clinic and Primary School. As a lower socioeconomic area, it provided me with opportunities to utilise the theories and skills I had gained in the classroom in Adelaide."
