Prizes and Awards

The Council of the University of South Australia reserves the right to not make a nomination for an award if the candidates are not deemed to be of sufficient merit.

Chancellor's Letters of Commendation

Chancellor's Letters of Commendation will annually recognise students:

  • who have completed at least 36 units in an undergraduate degree program (including degrees with honours and honours degrees); and
  • have completed a minimum 18 units towards that program within the year of awarding; and
  • obtained a cumulative program grade point average in the top 5% of all students in that division / Centre for Regional Engagement for study undertaken in that program at UniSA.

University Merit Awards

The University Merit Awards will annually recognise students:

  • who have completed at least 36 units in an undergraduate degree program (including degrees with honours and honours degrees); and
  • have completed a minimum 18 units towards that program within the year of awarding; and
  • obtained a cumulative program grade point average that places the student in the top 15% (excluding the top 5%) of all students in that division / Centre for Regional Engagement for study undertaken in that program at UniSA..

Students eligible for a Chancellor's Letter of Commendation will not also receive a University Merit Award for that year.

University of South Australia Medals


The University of South Australia Honours Medal will be awarded annually to graduands with outstanding performance in an honours degree or degree with honours in each division.

Students need to achieve a program GPA or degree with honours equivalent GPA in the top 0.5% of honours graduands within each division.

The University of South Australia Medal will be awarded annually to graduands with outstanding performance in a bachelor degree (excluding honours degrees or degrees with honours, but including the pass degree of degrees with honours) in each division.

Students need to achieve a program GPA in the top 0.5% of graduands within each division.
