Md Mushfiqur Rahman - Bangladesh
Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Project Management) (LBMI)
"Adelaide is a very beautiful and small city, and I think it is a perfect place to study. It wasn't a problem for me to settle in, even though I came here by myself. For any students thinking about studying at the University of South Australia – they should go for it. I think this University is one of the best places to study at."
Eric Ngang Ndeh Mboumien - Cameroon
Master of Environmental Management and Sustainability (LMES)
"The University's course content meets my career expectations. Secondly it offered the opportunity to blend my past academic background and my professional experience engaging in more practical application of knowledge and skills. I have attended sessions organised by the Learning and Teaching Unit on paraphrasing and avoiding common grammatical errors and it has been quite helpful. Campus Central has readily answered my questions especially during my initial days when I was unable to find my way around."
Xu Huixi Ivy - China
Bachelor of Commerce (DBCC)
"At the University of South Australia I got the chance to participate in an exchange and go to another country to experience a different culture, broaden my horizons and make friends from different nationalities as well. Studying at the University has equipped me with professional and practical knowledge which I strongly believe is a life-long skill.
The atmosphere here is so relaxed, the faculty are so friendly, patient and responsible, the purpose of the study is career oriented, which is good for my future. The teaching staff are so responsible and always try to make the class interesting while transferring knowledge."
Lau Shuk Man Teresa - Hong Kong
Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Management) (MBAR)
"As an international student, studying overseas can often come up with issues like language problems... whenever I was unclear with my assignment, I would make an appointment with Learning and Teaching Unit staff who were always willing to offer assistance to students. I would often bring my finished assignment and their friendly staff would go through my assignment with me and point out my mistakes, such as grammatical problems and sentences formatting. They would then teach me how to correct the mistakes that I made.
My advice to the future students is to enjoy their study life at the University of South Australia and to make use with all the campus facilities to brighten their university life."
Lochana Medhi - India
Master of Arts (Communication Management) (MMCO)
"Extensive support towards students, especially international students, encouraged me to join this university. The extensive and all-round cooperation and support from academic and non-academic staff has been commendable and really helped me to succeed in my chosen course. My program was extremely professional and industry based… and gave me the opportunity to develop my strengths and helped me identify professional opportunities and work towards them.
Adelaide is a lovely and beautiful city. It is a small and simple city but its simplicity makes a positive difference in your student life. I could not have found a better place in Australia than Adelaide! The city has provided me with a great student life experience, lots of fun, and a feeling of security."
Ayu Ambarini - Indonesia
Master of Human Resource Management (DMHU)
"The range of subjects offered at the University of South Australia is close to real life practice. I'm happy with my choice, because I feel that I have received the best education, not only in terms of academic credentials, but also due to the facilities and support systems for international students.
Adelaide is so green and fresh. During summer, or in a good weather, I spend my weekend barbequing in the park with family or friends. People are so friendly and welcoming here. I was very happy when I was out walking and people passing said 'g'day mate' to me – suddenly I felt like a part of Australian society."
Saba Majeed - Iraq
PhD Mathematics (LPIM)
"I like the University's library… with huge spaces to study and there are also study rooms one can book. There are countless books available and postgraduate students can request any book or paper which is not available and the library will buy it and send to us.
Before arriving Australia I was a bit worried being in another country, but I was amazed when I saw this multicultural city. It is like seeing the whole world in one city. There are different religions here and each one can practice its own religion without obtrusion from others. People in Adelaide are quite nice, friendly and they like to help. The best thing in Adelaide, it is safe and not crowded, and an ideal place to study. The transportation services like buses, tram and trains are very convenient and available all the time. Also, there are many nice spots in Adelaide one can visit in the weekends with a lot of outdoor and multicultural activities."
Jocelyn Gek - Malaysia
Bachelor of Midwifery (IBMW)
"I chose to study at the University of South Australia because it offers the degree course I'm really interested in. As a Midwifery student, I get a lot of chances to commence clinical placement. This gives me the opportunity to really utilise the knowledge I've learnt into practice, and also helps to become familiar with the working environment before graduating. It also provides great training for improving my communication skills.
When I first arrived I lived in a home-stay, which was a good experience for me. Now, I'm staying in a city apartment with two housemates, both from Malaysia. The campus is just a short walking distance away and we can get anything we want easily – Chinatown is close to us also. I enjoy staying in Adelaide."
Adel Alsharif - Saudi Arabia
Master of Business Administration MBA (DMMA)
"The quality is high and I was learning not only from the books in theory but the teaching staff were using the practical methods of teaching which influenced my views, personality and my confidence. I believe those experiences are the most valuable because I have the opportunity to attend meetings, discussions and interviews which increased my level of confidence and provided me with better and practical learning."
Brian Li Qun Ho - Singapore
Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine (IBBL)
"The University of South Australia courses are practical orientated, which makes transition into the work place smoother. I particularly liked the idea of having an elective subject. This allowed me to have a breath of fresh air from what I was studying.
I chose South Australia as compared to other Australian states it has a lower cost of living. The lifestyle in South Australia was also attractive. Adelaide is a city with all the infrastructure found in bigger cities, without the pollution and stress associated with other major cities of the world. The central location of my city campus makes it very accessible by public transport and this also means that a variety of food is always available within walking distance. The weather is pleasant throughout the year with great beaches for recreational activities. There were no difficulties in settling in."
Beauty Nolan - Zimbabwe
Bachelor of Business (Commercial Law) and International Management (DBDD)
Master of International Studies (MMIL)
"I wanted to study at the University of South Australia as it is well known for the quality of its teaching and business degrees. The teaching style encouraged me to think for myself, to research and find answers. This was hard at first but the lecturers showed us how to research... and we have an opportunity to have industrial or overseas experience.
Campus Central helped with my enrolments and extension of visa . They are the one stop shop for international students. The Learning and Teaching Unit has also been helpful... with my academic writing, especially referencing. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to help me adjust to a new life in a new place, away from family. I also enjoyed that the University is very multicultural. In my first year of study I made friends with people from Sweden, Germany, Japan, China and Africa. I have maintained most of these relationships and it's an experience I recommend to anyone."
Therese Sjostrom - Sweden
Bachelor of Management (Marketing) and Bachelor of Arts (International Studies) (DBMT)
"Studying at the University of South Australia is a good mixture of lectures and tutorials and a good mixture of reading and assignments. Our lecturers are most often invited in from the business world. The lecturers are all good, they are highly educated and most often they have a long work experience or research background and they are very professional.
I really like City West campus it's a modern campus in the middle of the city it's close to everything. It's perfect as students have 24 hour access to the campus and computer pools. The campus has two cafeterias and a book shop with all the course books available. City West has a really good library and the staff are helpful and friendly. I think they understand how hard it is for a first year student to find books in this 4 level library!"
James Warner - UK
Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Management) (MBAR)
"The Learning and Teaching Unit are an important aspect of the University of South Australia. They provide a helpful service in providing students with information to do mainly with study problems or difficulties. The library facilities are first class and library staff are attentive to students' needs. The library provides computers for assisting students' access to web information, such as journals and articles, as well as having a large range of books for each subject. There are quiet spots for those who require it, and areas for general research."
Melina Mahoney - USA
Exchange Program
"Adelaide is great. Coming from the U.S., it was an adjustment because it was the little things that were different. But it was very easy to settle in due to the helpful people and the beautiful environment. The University of South Australia is the reason I am living at Ipad Unilodge. I found the apartment on one of the University's websites under accommodation. Since I leased the apartment before I arrived in Adelaide, I wanted to find a place that was associated with the University and a trusted place as well."
Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diem Joaney - Vietnam
Bachelor of Arts (Languages and Intercultural Communication) (MBAL)
"I am extremely impressed with all the inspiring staff at the University of South Australia – they have a wide knowledge within their chosen fields. I previously had difficulties understanding applied linguistic theories, but now with the staff's aid, I have overcome this problem. I just feel that they are always willing to help me in any circumstance.
The computer pools on campus are equipped with high-speed computers that students find comfortable to assist them to complete their work. The library also has a lot of available resources, serving students' needs very well."
