Meet some of the UniSA students currently completing the Global Experience program.
Samuel Rodda
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
I have always been intrigued by cultures different to mine own; the many varying ways in which people live out life in their definition of normal. It was the curiosity that this created which first lead me to enrol in the GE program a mere 6 months into my Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Sustainable Systems). Okay. Perhaps a desire to do some international travel while not putting study on hold was also partly to blame... But whatever the reasons, it was by far the best decision I could have made while studying at the University of South Australia (UniSA). It is said that an experience is only as good as the person make it whereas a memory is only as special as the people who share it. While the experiences would remain just as incredible, my memories of them wouldn't be half so meaningful had I not had such amazing people to share them with. The students, staff and volunteers of the GE program. They have made my time at university one phenomenal adventure. This considered, the program has given me the most extensive professional development and multi-culture experience anyone could hope to receive at university while working with some of the worlds most inspiring people. Simply put… it is a life changing experience!
Jennifer McInnes
Bachelor of Midwifery
‘I joined GE because it offered access to some amazing opportunities, and recognition for everything I'm already involved in. So far, thanks to GE, I've attended the University Scholars' Leadership Symposium on Global Poverty and Development in Thailand; spent three weeks in the Philippines working on a marine conservation project - and had my first, mind-blowing dive encounter with a whale shark; worked with an amazing team to teach basic midwifery and emergency care to traditional birth attendants in Cambodia; had hours of joy, laughter and creativity working with refugee children in Adelaide, and attended fascinating workshops and seminars on global health, human rights, and international development - and I'm not finished yet!’
Ben Trewren
Bachelor of International Studies
'I was privileged to travel the world at the beginning of my teenage years and have ever since taken a passionate and engaged interest in the world around me. Joining Global Experience made perfect sense as it allowed me to rediscover my past adventures and experiences, but more valuably to learn new skills and investigate new opportunities. Through GE I have been supported to travel into South East Asia for the first time, I have been given the opportunity to develop professional skills, I have been encouraged in my ideas to change the communities around me and I have been able to uncover what career paths might lie ahead of me. I don't think I could genuinely place a price or value on what GE has provided to me, shared with me and inspired me to do.'
