5:2 Diet – Type 2 Diabetes Medication Management Study

Volunteers needed to investigate the effect of the 5:2 diet on medication management in people with Type 2 Diabetes.

If you have medication controlled Type 2 Diabetes, with HbA1c greater than 7%, you may be eligible to be involved, see eligible medications below:

INSULIN

GLICLAZIDE: Glyade®, Mellihexal®, Nidem®, Genrx Gliclazide®

GLICLAZIDE ER: Diamicron®, Glyade ®, Oziclide®

GLIBENCLAMIDE: Daonil®, Glimel®

GLIPIZIDE: Melizide®, Minidiab®

GLIMEPIRIDE: Amaryl®, Dimirel®, Aylide®, Diapride®, Gilmepiride Sandoz®

Volunteers will be asked to wear a continuous blood glucose monitor for 4 weeks. For the first 2 weeks you will eat your usual diet. For the second 2 weeks we will make some changes to your diabetes medication dosages so that you can follow the 5:2 diet, 2 days of strict eating and 5 days of sensible eating.

Participation in the study will last 4 weeks and will involve 4 visits to UniSA’s Sansom Clinical Trials Facility on Frome Rd. Upon successful completion of the study, volunteers will receive an honorarium payment of $100.
