The Wark’s new Director, Professor Magnus Nydén commenced on 2 April 2012. Prior to his appointment, Magnus was Professor in Surface Chemistry at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden.
Wark Research Associates, Dr Haolan Xu and Dr Jingfang Zhou, were two of the four UniSA researchers awarded a prestigious ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA).
At the UniSA graduation ceremony held on 30 March 2012, former Wark Director, Laureate Professor John Ralston AO, was conferred with the award of Emeritus Laureate Professor.
Research at The Wark makes a real difference!
Named in recognition of eminent Australian scientist Sir Ian William Wark, the institute has a prized international reputation for fundamental and applied research and postgraduate education. The Wark has produced over 150 graduates, representing the next generation of scientific leaders.
With an impressive list of research sponsors and projects in areas such as bio and polymer interfaces, colloids and nanostructures and mineral processing, The Wark aims to both develop new technologies for use in industry and improve upon existing processes.
The Wark is a major contributor to UniSA's research in chemical sciences and physical chemistry, both of which received rankings of 5 in the 2010 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) assessment, confirming outstanding performance well above world standard in these areas.
The Wark will also play a central role in the recently completed AU$73M Materials and Minerals Science Learning and Research Hub at the Mawson Lakes Campus.
