University of Wollongong – STEM Competitions

The University of Wollongong runs a number of STEM competitions. 


F1 in schools

The F1 in schools challenge delivers industry-standard technology into schools with students as young as 10 designing, testing and making miniature F1 cars capable of 80km/h. 


Australian STEM Video Game Challenge

ACER has launched an Australian STEM Video Game Challenge in Australia. 



The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) are independent skills-based assessments with a competition element. The assessments comprise eight Digital Technologies tests, eleven English tests, eleven Maths tests, eleven Science tests, five Spelling tests and ten Writing tests. 



Creativity in science and technology (CREST) is a non-competitive awards program supporting students to design and carry out their own open-ended science investigation or technology project. 


Science Bootcamp

Science bootcamp is an immersive CSIRO science experience for secondary school students. CSIRO Education and Outreach host science bootcamp in various capital cities throughout the year. 


Digital Careers

Digital Careers is a collaborative national initiative of industry, research, primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions (universities and TAFE), and government focused on reducing the critical shortage of Australian ICT professionals by raising awareness and interest in ICT careers. Digital Careers focuses on primary and secondary school students, parents, curriculum teachers and school based career advisors.


Intel® Teach Elements

Intel® Teach Elements is a series of 4 free, interactive eLearning courses that can be taken anytime, anywhere. These compelling courses have been localised for Australia and provide deeper exploration of key 21st century learning concepts for all teachers.


FIRST® Robotics Australia

FIRST Robotics is an internationally acclaimed robotics program that inspires a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in young people. FIRST Australia was established at Macquarie University in 2006. Since then, FIRST Australia has partnered with schools and universities across Australia with teams and competitions held in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. University of Sydney hosts The Drop Bears -


University of Newcastle - Science & Engineering Challenge

The Science and Engineering Challenge is a nationwide STEM* outreach program presented by the University of Newcastle in partnership with communities, Rotary clubs, universities and sponsors. Through the Challenge, students experience aspects of Science and Engineering which they would not usually see in their school environment. The Challenge focuses on inspiring students in year 10 to consider a future career in science and engineering by choosing to study the enabling sciences and mathematics in years 11 and 12.
