Side view of line of International students in caps and gownsMore than 700 UniSA students from around the world will begin the December holiday season with major success under their belts. 

And among those who cross the stage at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Monday, 18 students will be marking the completion of one of highest academic achievements, a PhD.

UniSA Vice Chancellor Professor David Lloyd says graduations are an important career milestone but just the beginning of great and interesting careers. 

“This ceremony is particularly rewarding because most of the graduates are from other countries,” Prof Lloyd says. 

“There is a great sense that through our determined and talented graduates we are sending a wave of inspiration and innovation into the world. 

“I congratulate each and every one of them on their achievement and encourage them to meet the next phase of their lives with a spirit of enterprise and engagement.”   

Graduates from China, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia  and Kenya will attend two ceremonies will be held on Monday December 22. 

In the morning the Australian Chief Executive of University College of London, David Travers will address graduates from UniSA’s Divisions of Business and Education, Arts and Social Sciences. 

Beginning as a journalist, Travers has a long career in government and business in South Australia. 

As CE of the Australian face of the world’s fourth ranked university which has expanded from its London base to teach law, medicine and architecture in the Indo-Pacific area. 

The afternoon graduation focusing on Health and Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment disciplines will feature the Chief Information Officer of World Vision, David Paterson as occasional speaker. 

Paterson joined World Vision in 2007 to oversee and encourage Australia’s involvement in the worldwide charity. 

He has had an international career in marketing and strategy, and prior to working at World Vision, he was the Chief Marketing Officer of Medibank Private.
