Creating a sustainable and prosperous future for the State’s regional areas will be the focus of upcoming public forum ‘Contemporary leadership in rural South Australia’, which will be hosted by the University of South Australia’s Hawke Centre on August 29.
Presented by Productivity Commissioner and UniSA Deputy Chancellor Dr Wendy Craik AM, the forum will examine the role of leadership in sustaining regional industry and community vitality and resilience during times of change.
Dr Craik, who is currently leading the Inquiry into Barriers to Effective Climate Change Adaptation, was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia in 2007 for service to the natural resource sector of the economy and for contributions to policies affecting rural and regional Australia.
Elizabeth Ho, Director of the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, says the forum is an opportunity for the public to discover what is happening in the State’s rural areas, which are the backbone of the South Australian economy.
“South Australia is home to a diverse range of key industries, including agriculture, viticulture, aquaculture and mining. Many of these industries are located in the State’s rural areas,” Ms Ho says.
“The forum will highlight what needs to be done to ensure our State can complete in an increasingly dynamic and evolving global market.
“We are delighted to have our Deputy Chancellor, Dr Craik, presenting at the forum – she has a long history of involvement with rural communities across Australia and will share her expertise on contemporary leadership in rural Australia.”
The forum is part of the UniSA Horizon SA series, which is running in conjunction with the University’s 21st birthday celebrations, to reflect on South Australia’s place in the world.
‘Contemporary leadership in rural South Australia’ will be held in the Bradley Forum, Hawke Building at UniSA City West campus on August 29, 5pm for a 6pm start.
