STEM in Youth Space

Back to project list

Students are sought to share their passion for the sciences and technology with students at youth space learning centres in Adelaide.

These centres are part of the 'Fexible Learning Options' program which assists young people who are at risk of disengaging from school.

Some of the reasons students disengage from their studies are because of:

  • anxiety and depression
  • learning difficulties
  • social and behavioural problems
  • bullying
  • homelessness and transience
  • family difficulties (South Australian Government, 2016).

You will have the opportunity to develop a program which integrates some of the practical aspects of your study (such as bridge building or science experiments).  You will also mentor Youth Space students as they explore and identify career pathways and goals.

Mentoring might be individual or group based. We will have in place a career guidance program that students can access with support of the mentor.
