MOUNT GAMBIER: HEART OF THE GREEN TRIANGLE
UniSA is focused on engaging with the world and being responsive to its needs. UniSA has significantly invested in the capacity and infrastructure of its Mount Gambier campus, paving the way for Forestry Research Mount Gambier to tackle important, contemporary issues such as water sustainability, energy use and residue management.
Mount Gambier is an ideal location for a forest research hub as it’s at the centre of Australia’s largest plantation forest growing region, as well as being home to one of UniSA’s regional campuses.
Plantation forest growing and processing, like many successful industries, has innovative research and development capacity as its base. The development of key forest research hubs located in South Australia and Tasmania, assists in providing the support needed to achieve the key goals and ongoing improvements of the forestry industry.
The forest industry continues to be one of the largest employers in the region, providing 7,000 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs, according to industry sources.
The Green Triangle is home to 17.9 per cent of Australia’s total plantation estate, including five globally significant plantation companies who have investments in the region.
Forestry Research Mount Gambier is committed to seeking and implementing forest industry initiatives and innovation that will embed South Australia – and Mount Gambier – as a leader in forest-related endeavours.
