The University of South Australia (UniSA) has partnered with the forest industry, the South Australian and Australian Governments, to establish a forestry research and development hub known as Forestry Research Mount Gambier (FoRMtG).
Located at UniSA’s Mount Gambier campus, Forestry Research Mount Gambier will support South Australia’s $1.2 billion forest industry. This partnership will create a strategic alliance to leverage outcomes and provide highly skilled research resources to address forest industry needs.
Forestry Research Mount Gambier will play a vital role in fostering collaboration, supporting research, boosting innovation and maintaining jobs while making Mount Gambier one of the major centres for forest industry research in the country.
Research at UniSA is inspired by challenges, partnered with end-users and communities, and underpinned by excellence, with 97 per cent of our research rated at or above world class standard.* We pride ourselves on our capacity to create interdisciplinary teams that tackle significant real world problems and create opportunities to build capacity and translate research into tangible outcomes and innovative real world impact.
The location of Forestry Research Mount Gambier, places it within the Green Triangle – one of Australia’s major forest regions. As one of South Australia’s largest regional sectors, UniSA can see that the Green Triangle forest industry’s profitability and sustainability is vital.
UniSA’s research capabilities will create opportunities and translate research into outcomes, assisting Forestry Research Mount Gambier to:
Forestry Research Mount Gambier aims to contribute to long-term industry goals, with market driven improvement in tree growing, processing and product development. It will strengthen and enhance the Green Triangle’s forestry activity, building on its existing reputation as an important region for the growth and processing of timber.
The effect on the region will be significant, including boosting innovation and maintaining jobs.
