School of Mathematics and Statistics

Welcome to the School of Mathematics and Statistics, regarded as one of the leading applied mathematics departments in Australia.

We offer undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in mathematical science, quantitative finance and science. We also teach many statistics and mathematics courses catering to students in a broad range of disciplines from science and engineering to business.

Research and research training thrive in our Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics and in our Phenomics and Bioinformatics Research Centre. We also have links to other research bodies outside the School, such as the Ian Wark Research Institute and the Barbara Hardy Institute.

We are home to a node of Australia’s first Industry Doctoral Training Centre, training PhD students in applied mathematical and statistical techniques, through innovative industry-based projects.

We offer consultancy in areas that include environmental modelling, scheduling and statistics, and we strive to promote mathematics and science in primary and secondary schools.
