The Journalism and Communication Research Group (JCRG) fosters research in journalism and communication across boundaries. This focus includes the borders between professional practice and the marginalised, between professional practice and regional/national identity, and between the professional fields which communicate across these areas. Members of the group investigate the values which underlie these intersections and the implications for those involved. Real world problems addressed include trauma, disasters, refugees, prisoners, medical journalism, regional journalism, travel writing, public relations and the social consequences of media technology. In this way, the group seeks to further understanding of communication and journalism in an interconnected globalised world.
Professor Ian Richards is editor of Australian Journalism Review, Australia's leading refereed journal in the academic fields of journalism and journalism studies.
