Marking its 10th Anniversary, the UniSA Law School hosted a new lecture series in recognition of The Honourable John Mansfield AM QC and his significant contributions to law and justice in Australia.

At the inaugural lecture, John Mansfield considered the substantive and procedural effectiveness of the Native Title Act 1993 to date, including the assessment of compensation for Indigenous land rights taken away, and the challenges and options for future effective recognition of Indigenous land rights.

The evening also celebrated the conferral of the honorary degree of Doctor of the University of South Australia to The Honourable John Mansfield AM QC. Serving as a Judge to the Federal Court of Australia, for almost 20 years, his leadership was recognised in 2009 at the Queen’s Birthday Honours where he was made a Member of the Order of Australia. Following his retirement in August 2017, the Hon John Mansfield AM QC will chair the Independent Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission Consultation and response Advisory Board.
