Leadership Development

UniSA's Leadership Development Program

The University of South Australia Business School's Leadership Development Program is designed to give a rapid and broad overview of key aspects of leading and managing an organisation, and also allows participants to transition into an MBA program at a later stage, if desired.

The program will improve middle managers’ performance ensuring they are:

  • more effective managers/leaders,
  • better able to engage, align and empower staff,
  • set and achieve operational goals,
  • raise capability from an operational focus to a strategic perspective,
  • develop essential skills and confidence necessary for effective leaders.

Participants attending will assist organisations to be better equipped to deal with the growing complexity, conflicting priorities and need to achieve more with less in a resource constrained environment.

Our facilitators utilise contemporary teaching methods involving participants and facilitating interactive discussions around real examples to develop understanding of core concepts and business principles.

Participants need to prepare prior to each session and actively contribute to highly interactive seminars, present their ideas, listen to other participants’ experiences and observations on topics, ask questions and seek clarification when they don’t understand a concept.

Our lecturers are highly respected for their combination of practical experience, formal academic qualifications, current research and strategic thinking in their topic areas.

Each module includes a variety of activities designed to develop different skills and capabilities, including:

  • Writing skills – a 1500 word assignment with each module assists in developing business writing skills.
  • Presentation skills – a formal presentation to the class on at least one topic during the program helps develop presentation skills and confidence.
  • Workplace project: 3000 word assignment brings together elements of what they have learnt in the program to address a real work-based issue or opportunity.

Our Strategic Partnerships staff have both industry and academic backgrounds. This mix of experience assists us in understanding industry issues so that we can develop relevant programs to meet the strategic goals of your organisation now and in future.

The Strategic Partnerships unit emphasises:

  • Applied learning projects relevant to the organisation and students, using projects as an impetus for change within organisations.
  • The non-threatening academic environment assisting participants to undertake study, which benefits the organisation in regards to employee outcomes and the students in relation to future career goals.
  • The selection of professional educators, who will deliver contemporary leadership/management theory, integrated with practical application relevant to the industry context.
