Alumni at the Australia China Alumni Awards Presentation Dinner

As one of the largest celebrations of Australia-China alumni’s achievements in China, the Gala Dinner was attended by over 200 alumni, including representatives of the Australian government (including the Australian Consul General in Guangzhou) , top Australian universities and national and international companies.

UniSA 25th Birthday Alumni dinner in Beijing, April 2016

Beijng alumni joined University of South Australia President and Vice Chancellor, Professor David Lloyd, Deputy Vice Chancellor: External Relations and Strategic Projects, Nigel Relph, and President of the China Chapter, Luqiang Qiao, at an Alumni dinner on 11 April 2016 at the Waldorf Astoria to celebrate the University’s 25th birthday.

Guests were invited to  write a birthday message on a card, and some of the notable messages were:

"To be better, to be greater! Happy 25th birthday, UniSA! Open a campus in Beijing!” - Yiping Dai, Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Communications)

UniSA Alumni cocktail reception in Shanghai, 24 March 2016

Alumni and friends attended a cocktail reception hosted by Deputy Vice Chancellor: External Relations and Strategic Projects, Nigel Relph, at the Waldorf Astoria in Shanghai. 

Guest speaker was Dr Justin Cohen, Senior Research Associate at Ehrenberg-Bass Institute for Marketing Science,  who spoke on  the state of play in the China wine market. Dr Cohen’s expertise is in route-to-market decision making, emerging markets (in particular China), retailing, online advertising and wine and food marketing.

Among the guests were: Udo Doring, CEO AustCham Shanghai,  Peter Arkell, Chairman of AustCham Shanghai, Karen Surmon and Brent Moore, and Trade Commissioners for Austrade, Dr Jeremy Cheng, CEO Asia Pacific Fragrance Resources,  Richard Kimber, Managing Partner JHK Legal, and Les Lewis, General Manager Detmold Packaging China.

UniSA Alumni Spring Festival Concert, 4 February 2016

China Alumni Chapter President Mr Qiao Luqiang with fellow China AlumnaUniSA alumni celebrated New Year with exquisite music performed by the famous Beijing Symphony Orchestra in the beautiful National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.

2015 events

UniSA China Alumni Chapter Spring Sports Meet,  31 May 2015

A small group of UniSA alumni got together on the last day of spring to get out of Beijing, play sport in the outdoors, pick fresh cherries and enjoy each other’s company.  The sports meet was followed by lunch and then a visit to the Australia and New Zealand club.This was the first event the UniSA China Alumni Chapter have organised since their inception early this year.  They are planning their second alumni activity in July, a  visit to the Yanjing Beer Company a chance to see the beer making process, as well of course, a chance to taste fresh beer straight off the production line.   Click here for more details.

China Alumni Dinner, 28 May 2015

Mr  Nigel Relph, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President of the University of South Australia in the presence of The Honourable Gail Gago MLC Minister for Employment, Higher Education and Skills for the Government of South Australia, hosted an alumni dinner at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Beijing on 28 May 2015.  About 30 people attended the event, including the Secretary General of the Western Returned Scholars Association, Mr  Zhang Xue Jun, high profile UniSA alumna, Angelica Cheung and the inaugural President of the UniSA China Alumni Chapter, Mr Qiao Luqiang.

2014 Australia China Alumni Awards

Winners of the 2014 Australia China Alumni Awards were announced at a gala dinner in Shanghai on 29 November.

 Australia-China Young Professionals Initiative graduate careers event

Australia-China Young Professionals Initiative (ACYPI) Adelaide’s End of Year Graduate Careers Event was held at Unley Town Hall on the evening of 26 November 2014.

Chaired by ACYPI Adelaide City Director, Mr Aaron Duff, attendees were welcomed to Unley Town Hall by the mayor of Unley, His Worship Mr Lachlan Clyne and were addressed by Mr Sean Keenihan (in Mandarin), the President of ACBC SA and the State’s Strategic Advisor on China. Then prior to networking, a panel of 3 successful young professionals shared their career stories and job-finding tips. They included; Ms. Monica Guo, Business Analyst at HPS Pharmacies, Mr. Simon Hou, Principal at DGS Real Estate, and Mr. Wayne Cao, Managing Director iAge Media Group.

The event was rounded out with Mr Jing Li from the Department of State Development who made an announcement on the SA Government’s planned international student internship program.

The 130 people present were made up primarily of soon-to-graduate students of SA’s three universities and the remainder being ACYPI young professionals.

China Chapter announced, 23 October 2014

More than 60 alumni attended a cocktail reception to celebrate the establishment of the University of South Australia Alumni Association of China held at Capital M, in Beijing on 23  October 2014.  The event was hosted by Mr Nigel Relph, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President:  International and Advancement, University of South Australia and Professor Marie Wilson, Pro Vice Chancellor (Business and  Law):  UniSA Business School.

CPA Australia, Australia China Alumni Award for Banking and Finance: Mr Richard Young, (Bachelor of Arts (Accountancy), 1991) - Managing Director and Head of the Shanghai office, Macquarie Capital, Shanghai (Degree); and Dr Stenson Tan, (Doctor of Business and Management, 2003) - Executive Director, Head of Global Markets Sales, Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Shanghai.

Australia China Alumni Award for Research and Innovation: Mr Kevin Gardner, (Master of Business Administration, 2009) - M&M China Technology Director, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Shanghai. Also University of Adelaide alumnus.

Austrade China Careers Fair in Shanghai, April 2012

More than 40 Chinese graduates from University of South Australia attended the Austrade China Careers Fair in Shanghai on 22 April 2012. They were able to meet with a wide range of companies represented at the event, including National Australia Bank , ANZ, CPA Australia, Worley Parsons, RioTinto, Bluescope Steel, Boral, Hays, Lendlease, Cundall Engineering Design Consulting, Next Digital, China Minmetals Corporation, Thyssen Krupp China, State Administration of Foreign Exchange.

Alumni Dinners in Shanghai and Beijing, March 2012

Shanghai Dinner
University of South Australia representatives, Mr Rob Greig, Director: International and Mr Alan Brideson, Director: Marketing and Development Unit, hosted two well attended and successful dinners for Chinese alumni in March.

Thirty-five alumni attended the Shanghai dinner held on
20 March at Le Royal Meridien Hotel.

Beijing Dinner
The Beijing dinner, held on 23 March at the Hilton Beijing was attended by 35 alumni, including special guests Jen Tyrell, Acting Minister-Counsellor (Education), Australian Embassy, China, and Edward Smith, Steering Committee Member, Australia China Alumni Association.
